Actually, it's not in the manual. See picture below, it does not use the word Sport or Second. Why is this a poll? It's in the manual
Then I would expect "L" to be labeled as 1, and "S" to be labeled 2. Based on the description in the image below, I could see it being either Second or Sport, hence my question.Don't you think that if it was second, they would have labeled it, oh I don't know... 2? Besides, in a CVT there is no second "gear" to speak of, unless you are simulating stepped gearing like CVTs with paddle shifters do. Then that's confusing to the masses. It's Sport. And it's also in the multipage document that covers all the features of the car that Honda so graciously (either printed or digital) provided with your purchase.
That's what I was looking for. Thanks! From the Honda Press Release on the powertrain:
"S-Range Control
To allow the driver to alter the operation of the CVT, the console-mounted gear selector includes an "S" or Sport mode that provides a sport-shift schedule that delays upshifting for more available power, and provides greater engine braking."
@chiefbrody Maybe it's "2nd" because it's the 2nd set of gear ratios that you can use in certain situations. Although it would make more sense if they used a "2" or if "L" was actually "1".But the term 'Second' doesn't make sense because it is changing the ratio for the entire gear set not just putting it into a simulated second gear
Sounds like it's been settled differently, but I had heard / thought that it technically meant "sequential", given the simulated shift points. Is the "S" gear labeled for Sport mode or Second gear?
LolI think of it more as second than I do sport. The only times I ever use it are when I need a quick boost of power at low speeds, if I'm starting on an incline from a stop, or if I am driving around low speed in town and need power on demand. 95% of the time, D with ECO off works just fine for me.
