My new Civic LX (4dr, CVT) replaced a pretty good car, my 8th generation Civic LX and for the that matter my old Accord was a real good car as well. But I'm finding that driving the new one is much more different than I had expected.

Compared to the old car, the 2017 one feels like riding around in a bubble of quiet comfort. I don't know if the 8th-gen Civics were just that much noisier and jumpy feeling (especially on poor pavement) or maybe mine after 9+ years was showing its age. I don't think I ever replaced any shocks or struts or steering bits on it so maybe it's an unfair comparison.

I've noticed that I drive much less impatiently in the new car than the old one. Smooth and easy seems to be my default mode nowadays. Not quite doing the full-on "old man" thing of driving below the speed limit or hitting the brakes half a block before each intersection, don't get me wrong! But the quieter cabin and more settled ride makes it easier to relax and just take each little journey as it comes.

So what do you think? Are the 10th generations Civics a noticeable improvement over the older ones in creature comfort? Or will this one get loose and noisy after 5-10 years just like the old one?

The 2016/2017 makes even the 2015 look like a cheap car in comparison, so I'm sure it's an even bigger leap from an 8th gen.

The body structure just keeps getting more rigid with each generation.

Interesting that you should say this. I feel like the car is going much faster than it is. And that it is equally enjoyable no matter how fast or slow your driving it.

With the Si or Type R, there's no need to "prove" that our car is as fast as it looks. We know there are many faster cars out there. But we also know that we're faster than 90% of the cars on the road. And can out handle 95% of the cars out there.

I find the 10th gen very well engineered and balanced. Which gives it the confident and sophisticated feel that it has. Add to that a nice balance of appointments against cost and you have the 10th Gen experience.

Coming from a 2007 Civic LX my 2016 EX is leaps and bounds ahead of it all. The cabin noise is alot better along with better turning. Definitely feels a heck of a lot better.

Sounds like I just lucked out by buying my latest Civic after the big 10th-generation improvements in cabin comfort. I'd sort of been used to my old Civic but in the past few months I rented a BMW for a week while on vacation then later borrowed a Mercedes from a family member while mine was in the shop. Both times I was like, "Man, I need a smoother and quieter car!".

Not sure I'd claim this new Civic handles like a BMW but it's as comfortable to ride in as either one of those German. Yet it cost darned near the same as the '08 Civic did, about 5-6% more tops. Heck of a lot better value-for-money proposition IMO than the 8th-generation ones. Hope it's also as reliable.

I like this new car so much I think I'll start detouring a mile and a half out of my way to buy it some Top Tier gas at the Sunoco station every week! Same price as the generic stuff at the station down the street so might as well keep those engine goozles nice and clean.:D

My previous car was an 8th gen Civic EX coupe (my new car is a 10th gen Civic EX-T coupe). I agree that the 10th gen has a much smoother and quieter ride, at least so far. I just hope it holds up as well as my 8th gen did. When my 8th gen had 100,000 miles, it still felt as tight as when it was new. Will that hold true for the 10th gen? I'm not too optimistic......

That's funny I had a '99 Accord and '00 Civic LX before buying my new LX. Hopefully this one doesn't get too noisy I've seen some complaints about rattles already and I have a couple of small ones mainly cause by the undercover pieces however I have sound deadened most of the car for my audio system so that might help. Compared to my old car, this thing is a Rolls Royce in amount of noise and features even with a base model.

I noticed that I enjoy driving alot more now and sometimes when I'm bored I will just go for a drive and floor it which I would have never done in my older cars because I was worried I would break something. This car is fun to drive and looks damn good too I don't even know why I was even considering a Focus (fun car too) or Corolla (BORING) after I test drove this car.

The 10th gen is quieter than the 8th, but the 8th gen had a better quality interior at all tiers.

Yes the interior on the 8th was a heck of a lot better. My interior still looked really good after 10 years and 155,000 miles. The cloth seats and armest looked great and I only shampooed and wipe down the seats every once in awhile.

The rattles on the 10th have been a PITA though. Got a couple I am still trying to figure out where they are coming from. I'll have the dealer check on my next oil change.

I didn't particularly dig the console/armrest on my 8th-gen but the 10th-gen one is even more massive and poorly thought out in my opinion. It's like they figured as long as you can cram a couple of tablet computers in there the rest of the design doesn't matter.

Then again I carry practically nothing in my car, compared to some people. If I had an iPad, an MS-Surface and a couple of Kindles or Fires that need to be stowed somewhere at all times maybe I'd think the console was great...

I have to carry less in my car now than previously. I used to be able to put my iPad and junk mail on the storage space for the door. Now it is a lot smaller. iPad doesn't fit so I throw it in the glove box when traveling. There is also less space in center console area. The cloth material is a complete joke. The next mod I do after putting on all my accessories I purchased will be the leather center console.

You won't be disappointed with the leather console, for me it changed the car from "I'm trading this in for something else" to "Not bad, upgrade the head unit and I've got another 10 year car".

Yeah I been following your thread. Almost wish I had a Hatchback so I can swap the armrest at such a cheap price. lol
