So I'm fairly certain the TCS button doesn't fully disengage traction control.

Hey guys. So I've tried this multiple times on my 6MT LX.

WITH TRACTION ON: launch the car around 3500rpm, I get a horrible clunking from the front end and a sort of hopping sensation from the tires. Clunking sounds just like ABS engaging. Standard for having TCS on, right?

WITH TRACTION OFF: same as above. Maybe a bit more wheel spin, able to make it up to 2nd gear, clunking away. I'm not sure if this horrid clunking is my tires intermittently grabbing the pavement or what, but at this point I'm pretty convinced that the traction control is NOT fully disengaged. Am I missing something here?

In previous vehicles I've owned or driven, e.g. Toyota, pressing the traction control indicated that it was off,but if you held the brake and the TCS button for about 5 seconds it would actually fully disengage. What's going on here?

This video I found on YouTube shows exactly how a launch SHOULD look:

But instead of that nice, long tire screech I get "SCREE-CLUNK-SCREE-CLUNK" repeatedly (clunk as in ABS engaging) until 2nd gear, chirp into 2nd and then it seems to fully grab and stick. Am I doing something wrong or is there something wrong with my car?

EDIT: so there is apparently a tutorial for the 2016 accord to properly disengage TCS/VSA, I tried it on the Civic but it doesn't work. Maybe there is something similar for the Civic?

How are you supposed to remove and apply the parking brake without pressing the brake pedal? Sitting in my car trying this as we speak. Doesn't work.

Edit, NEVERMIND. Holy shit it worked, slightly different but it WORKED.

So do you mean you dont actually engage the brake, but just pull up on the button? On my car, you most certainly need to press the brake to turn the e-brake on and off.

Sorry I meant to engage the E-brakes you don't need to press the brakes.

i was watching your video, if you are doing 0-60 time. just ride 2nd gear out til it hits rev limiter.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but with snow and ice making an appearance, I searched through the forum for how to disengage the TC/VSA. I found this video posted

But since we have an "Electronically Controlled" parking brake I wasn't sure how this could work.

Like Rommy said:

Then he says:

"Slightly different" I read, but how?

So I went out to my '17 Si and figured it out. It should be the same for all of the tenth generation.

Make sure to turn off the Parking Brake before you begin!

1) Push and hold the foot brake.

2) Cycle the VSA button. (On then off).

3) Turn on the Parking Brake. (You don't have to release the foot brake first. Handy if you're parked on a hill).

4) Release the foot brake while leaving the Parking Brake on.

5) Cycle the VSA button (while just the parking brake is on).

6) Push and hold the foot brake (while the parking brake is engaged).

7) Cycle the VSA Button.

At this point you should have two red indicators on the left side of your display. One of them flashing aggravatingly, which I guess is the penalty imposed upon us for driving "unsafely".

Just release the parking brake and you can drive around with the TC/VSA disabled. (Up to what speed is still under discussion).

To return to normal mode, simply push the VSA button again.

Hopefully this is simple enough so that all of the OCD and memory impaired people like me can visualize and remember it.

Cycle the VSA button with just the foot brake.
Cycle the VSA button with just the parking brake.
Cycle the VSA button with both brakes engaged.

Precisely. Thanks for rewording it. Works great. Doubt I'll ever try it in the snow though... I'm wondering if when it's disabled it still applies the brakes during turning to keep the car's traction going.
