Hi all,

I am thinking of doing the following just to give a bit more zip to my audio. I don't want to replace the head unit cause with all the harnesses and such that runs into a bit more money I am willing to spend.
I was thinking of putting in those tweeter sails from the ex and add a set tweeters, add an amp and add an 8 inch powered subwoofer to my audio.
I don't need Carniegie Hall level sound but I would like to improve the sound a bit without investing a ton of money.

But I am not sure if I should just add in tweeters or replace the front speakers with components.
I was thinking getting either the Kicker Hideaway powered subwoofer or a Pioneer powered subwoofer.

Hideaway: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_20611HS8/Kicker-11HS8.html
Pioneer: https://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-TS-WX120A-Powerful-Amplified-Subwoofer/dp/B01FKW6IRG

Get a 4 channel amp like the Kenwood universal amp
Kenwood: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_500KTP445U/Alpine-KTP-445U-Power-Pack.html

I was thinking of getting those JBL tweeters that folks here on the forum recommend a lot.
Or get a set of Pioneer components and replace the front speakers.

Would I need a LOC too? Are these good choices if you just want to add a bit of oomph to your audio and not rock the block as your driving down the street?

Thanks

If you listen to FM radio you really need to swap the head unit, the FM Tuner is awful on that thing. I fired up Pandora through the bluetooth and it actually doesn't sound too bad, bass isn't great but not terrible for stock. It blew my mind the difference in audio quality... my old EX I replaced had better FM audio than my new Sport.

I don't listen to much to the FM, I usually play songs from my Iphone using Bluetooth. But I like listening to pop to heavy metal to whatever interests me. I am thinking also of installing my SirriusXM Onyx Plus radio in my Hatch. I just need to get the vehicle dock for it and figure out the best way to install. Since there is no acc socket, I guess I would have to get a FM adapter.
I just would like some bass when I listening to some heavy drumming and such. When I get phone calls, to have the sound a bit clearer. I wouldn't mind replacing the head unit but by the time you factor the cost of the HU, various harnesses, and install costs, it adds up to a pretty penny.

Edit: I ordered the left and right tweeter panels for the front doors but they are back ordered with no ETA. Darn.:(

I ordered the tweeter pods to install in my Sport. Took a week to get. One arrived today and the second one will be in tomorrow. So I will have a weekend project of installing tweeters in my Sport. I just need to order the tweeters now. I was thinking of ordering the JBL GT019T premium tweeters through Amazon.
The next project would be to install a powered subwoofer like the Kicker Hideaway or Pioneer TS-WX120A powered subwoofer.

There is a youtube video showing how to install the Pioneer TS-WX120A and it looks like it takes its power from the fuse box and you don't have to wire to the battery. Interesting.

Been doing more research on powered subwoofers. Found the Cerwin Vega powered active subwoofer enclosure for about 50 or so bucks more than the Pioneer. The Vega is a 10 inch slim subwoofer that can fit under seats. It has good reviews. That might be a better buy since I like to listen different types of music including speed metal.

Crap, went by the dealer yesterday. The one tweeter pod is still backordered with a new ship date of May 3. The parts guy said it should be in by the 4th. So I asked him to text me when the part comes in so I am not bothering them everyday with "Is it here yet?". So I will put this time to good use and do a bit more research on what audio equipment I want to get for my Sport. Since I am leasing it, I have to be a bit careful of what I do.

Went by the dealership today and both tweeter pods were in. It was about $25 with tax for the pair.
So now I just need to order either tweeters or front components. Soon as the weather allows, I will take out the old sails and put in the tweeter pods. I will try to take pictures as I go along. I am bit torn on the getting components for the front cause unless the speaker is sensitive enough, I would have to install an amp too along with all the extra install parts you have to get when replacing the front speakers. I am really thinking that just adding a set of front tweeters should up the quality a bit.
I still want to add a powered subwoofer but that I would have that professionally installed since I don't want to short something out accidently.

I have the Cerwin Vega underseat powered subwoofer, and its awesome. Fills the cabin with bass. Also replaced the tweeters with a JBL-GTO9T set. Good highs and bass you can feel.

Man, wonder if that under-seat would fit my hatch...?! Anyone sporting a powered sub under seat in their Hatchback?

I have not installed anything yet. It was raining off and on this past weekend. I figured on installing the tweeters and the tweeter pods myself. Just wondering if I will need any connectors in addition to what is supplied with the tweeters?
I know I will probably need an amp/subwoofer cabling kit for the powered subwoofer.

Do you have some way to block the lower bass signals from going to your tweeters like a bass blocker? Otherwise you might blow your tweeters. Most component sets have a crossover to do this for you but since you are just adding tweeters you may not have one or it may have come with your tweeters.

According to JBL the tweeters come with a 12dB/octave passive crossover network. So I don't think I would need a bass block for these tweeters. I am more concerned if I need to get any adapters to hook up the front speaker wire to the tweeters/tweeters to the front oem speakers.
