Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone could share some insight/thoughts regarding the EX-L vs. Touring sedan models? I'm going in to test drive them both this week. It seems like under the hood they are basically the same. For the Touring, you're paying for extra bells and whistles like LED lights, Honda Sensing/Nav, 450 watt stereo system, etc.

Do you think the Touring price tag is worth these upgraded features? Any thoughts/tips would be greatly appreciated!

I looked at the Touring model and for the price of a Nav system, Led head lights and the stereo wasn't worth it to me. I got the EX-L with sensing, you can download the auto app either with an I phone or android and use the phone for Nav right on your screen. But it depends on you, the stereo on the EX-L sounds great, who needs 450 watts and from what I've been told the sub woofer rattles at high volume.

It's a very personal decision. I was very price sensitive and on top of that I preferred the EX-L wheels, headlights, and lack of chrome door handles. For just the turn signals, power passenger seat, and rear heated seats it wasn't worth it to me. With my insurance it's like a $25 a month savings to have sensing though, so that makes the price points pretty close. On paper the extra equipment is definitely worth the price, but do you want/need that equipment is the real question.

I got the sport touring because I wanted the larger rims and tires in a hatchback. I chose the touring because the base sport is limited to base options but for the sedan I can't say much. The extra equipment you get though in the touring is very well priced. It is up to you but personally I just play around with some of the sensing options sometimes but normally don't use it. I love the led headlights and other lights compared to the others though.

Not sure if was a sensing Bell or a Whistle that saved me from a possible fender bender two days ago. I was going slowly behind other cars and looked at something out of the side window for a second too long. The car in front had slowed more and the forward-collision warning beeped. I braked in time, but without it I very well could have bumped the car in front. Considering the costs of repairs, my thinking is: if the sensing saves you from, say, 2 "minor" incidents over the lifetime of the car, it pays for itself (not even considering insurance ramifications).

I got the Touring because I liked the way it felt and looked. The options weren't really a big deal for me, most of them I wasn't familiar with until after I bought the car. I recently drove to the Tire rack HQ in South Bend IN from Shitcago and I was messing with the lane keep assist and active cruise control and they both worked remarkably well. Sensing has warned me more than a few times of possible problems in traffic,which is kind of nice, now that I'm use to it helping me drive better.

I have a 2016 touring and I love it. In the beginning I had to take my car in the fix the rattle. I eventually fixed it myself with help of a post from this site. Im a sound nerd and enjoy the the 9 speaker surround sound and can blast my music at full volume no problem. I prefer the rims/ chrome door handles/ led lights as they make the car stand out instantly from every other civic. Only feature I don't use is the heated rear seats. If you can afford it I would highly recommend a touring. Sensing is the greatest thing to be put on a car. It's saved me from so many accidents. Late nights i sometimes nod off driving home, with sensing it literally gets me home safely.

Man, people referring to sensing "gets me home" scrares me. What happen to good drivers, good driving technique and being defensive? I can see it saving someone once like in the other post but dude maybe you shouldn't be on the road. BTW I would go with a touring since your soo close in trims.

Man, people referring to sensing "gets me home" scrares me. What happen to good drivers, good driving technique and being defensive? I can see it saving someone once like in the other post but dude maybe you shouldn't be on the road. BTW I would go with a touring since your soo close in trims.
At 2am driving home honda sense is a huge safety net. If you have it and use it like I do you know the limits and capabilities of the computer. I do agree though I shouldn't be driving tired, I take the technology for granted. oh well

Got a quote from a dealer months ago after I went through costco auto. $25,600 for a touring and $388 for all the fees. So I got mine for close to $26,000 out the door. The led headlights alone makes it look a lot more unique and higher class than the lower trims. I test drove both the Touring and EX-L and the Touring just had a more premium feel that I just had to have. Personally I was glad I went with the touring. I say get the one you feel you will love and not just have to live with.

At 2am driving home honda sense is a huge safety net. If you have it and use it like I do you know the limits and capabilities of the computer. I do agree though I shouldn't be driving tired, I take the technology for granted. oh well
Driving at 2am with zero traffic is the absolute safest time to drive unless you are drunk. If you need sensing at 2am you should literally not have a license!

Unfortunately I have a license:) And thanks to sensing the roads safer for me and others regardless of time.

IMO some drivers aren't taught to maintain a lane correctly, and pick a "focus" point in front that is too near their car. These are the folks that weave left and right when in front of you. I would think that sensing can "retrain" them to be better drivers. I rarely get the warning beeps/light that I'm too far left or right in my lane simply because of the way I was taught to drive.

I agree with Sensing training you (or at least trying to ;) ) I always use my signals and I don't tailgate. If you like to tailgate or change lanes without signaling the Sensing will probably really really annoy you.
