I'm in York PA. The guy I talked to today really made it sound like the dealers needed to 'stick together' in the plan to markup.
Is that even allowed? Everyone band together to upcharge the public in the initial marketplace and then sell at a lower price later. Just going by very vague memory here, but wasn't there a few companies that were hit with major lawsuits for collaborating like this to be able to charger higher prices.
I know its okay for a dealership to mark up over sticker price fine...but everyone working together across the country to nail customers..that just doesnt sit well. Shame on honda for allowing that if it happens:thumbsdown:

Agreed. I think @jdmk20akid said his info said Honda is discouraging markups since they're limited numbers... but I doubt they're obligated to do anything.

Haha Oil Change at the dealer for this car?! I think not!
Agreed. Unfortunately for the dealer, I'll probably only have it in for inspections and warranty/recalls.

Ah. Yeah here we have state safety and emission inspections. Sucks. Some states have absolutely no inspection!

Oh frig eh, in Ontario at least there is no safety inspections on a new car ownership, and where I live, there is ZERO emissions testing lol. Northern Ontario perks.. one of the few.

I can only hope that, once the Si and CTR start coming in, Honda will start sending more manual trans lower end vehicles here. So few of any model with stick to be found in the country.

I hope so.
The sales guys I've talked to say 'they won't send them because they sell 1 manual for every 20 automatics.' I said well, yeah, that's because you only have 1 manual, it's in the lowest trim level, and it's in a color nobody wants. Of course people are taking the automatic.

I'm in the used car business, and although every one of 'my' vehicles is a manual transmission, automatics are like 100 percent easier to sell. Very seldom do I get someone coming in asking for a manual. Maybe 1 out of 15 or 20 cars I sell are standard, and if I had more of them they would just sit on the lot for a long time.
Just the world we live in, most people don't want to shift anymore...

This information lines up exactly with what I've been informed of as far as initial supply. The first 1100ish will all be a mandatory supplemental unit so that every US dealership is guaranteed at least 1. Then 400 more to be actually allocated. This information was provided to me by a dealer principal. They are going to be the first to get this information from Honda and I trust it 100%.

Also an update from my end of things... Today our regional rep stopped by and talked to me about the Civic Type R's. She had even taken a few pics of the one in Washington DC for me as well. At this point there isn't a whole lot of information I don't already have besides price, and actual availability. So I didn't bother with asking about price because I truly believe she has no clue, and won't know that information until closer to release. However, I casually brought up some questions about availability. She did confirm with me that what I had been told by the dealer principal is correct. SO THAT's IT, FOR THIS ENTIRE YEAR THERE WILL ONLY BE 1500 BROUGHT TO THE US........ And just to clarify, that is not 1500 2017 models then an additional 1500 2018 models for the whole 2017 year. That is BOTH, and means that for the rest of 2017 we will only get roughly 1500 CTR's in the states. That information is from both dealership principal and regional rep. That means that some dealerships will only get one, and other dealerships will receive two for the entire year. There could be a dealership with three if they sell a shit ton of civics though, Honda always bases allocation on sales performance. The more civics sold the more Type R's they will receive. But other than that, thats the realistic availability for these things the first year.
So of course after hearing that news, I decided to ask her how many are they planning to produce for next year. I told her that some dealerships are like mine and have a list of about 5 people trying to get these so I definitely wanted to know what I can expect as far as availability. She told me that she doesn't know how they are going to manufacture them after initial release, but that from what she's been told that we can expect the first initial release will be the most abundant amount of CTR's released. And I also told her that I had heard we would start to get 300 a month, and she quickly turned that down and said she hasn't heard that and highly doubts that probability. But, just to play devil's advocate I would take her words with a grain of salt about that, and heres why...

- At the LAautocon release of the Type R the rep there SPECIFICALLY stated that production "could fluctuate" year by year. While I highly doubt this for the US due to future import taxes we might start seeing, but it does give us a little hope that few more get produced to slightly meet demand.

- Also if we get 1500 initially for the first year, and that may be the biggest release/ most availbility for the Type R that may not be THAT BAD. Keep in mind that in June when they are released that will be halfway through the year. So for next year they could release more, for example 2000-2250 units but spread that over 12 months vs 6 months like the initial release. My guesses and math so far have been holding up pretty well to all the information that we're getting from higher ups. THIS IS GOING TO BE A LIMITED AVAILABILITY VEHICLE PERIOD.

This is also why SOME dealerships aren't taking deposits, other dealerships don't care and just want to take your money and assume that everything will just work out which in my opinion is just wrong. The dealerships not taking deposits know that if they take 5-6 deposits for these cars that customers are going to have to wait a year or two before getting there car if they are 5th or 6th in line. :/

Here is some math that also helps with how I came to the numbers I did.

US Civic Hatchback production: 40,000 units total

if the Civic TYPE R is...

5% of production: 2,000 units
6% of production: 2,400 units

The Civic Si is typically 8-9% of total civic units. I'd expect the Type R to be a bit more exclusive. And also keep in mind that there are roughly 1100 dealerships in the US...
