I've been considering how to manage a transition from the current EX stereo to an aftermarket installation. I'm kind of bothered by the idea of losing the ability to make different climate control selections if I make the switch. I've done some digging for photos of the two different parts, and it seems like one would be able to put the LX Climate Control in the EX trim. Any thoughts on the viability of this idea? The back of both parts look the exact same.

The following is a picture of the back of the LX Climate Control system. Taken from here.

I'm curious...because I only drive stick, I didn't look above the Sport trim. What functionality for HVAC does the entertainment system control?

How do you plan on using the system settings (vehicle lock setting, Honda sensing setting, etc) after you go aftermarket?

All Top left plug look same but car use many function in main audio headunit eg. walkawaylock / vehicle setting / sensor setup / link to digital speedo meter for information.
so replace hvac with lx is not critical problem but replace audio headunit may cause you many trouble. So you need aftermarket headunit that you sure for compatible with your car.

In thailand only way to improve sound el model (EX)or above that i see is
1. Add amplifier
2. Sound Damp
3. Replace speaker
4. Built subwoofer
5. add crossover

Sorry for my bad english

It controls which vents you are using (upper/floor), AC on/off, and fan speed.

Honestly, I have not yet thought that all through. Perhaps aftermarket would be a dumb idea since all those settings would be unchangeable.

Some aftermarket stereo manufacturers have developed systems to allow people to access the factory stereo's vehicle settings. You can see what I'm talking about here.

On the 2010 Chevy Camero, Alpine created a "perfect fit" aftermarket stereo solution, which allows you to control things like AC, remote start settings, door locks, lighting, and collision detection systems. Given the popularity of this generation of Civic, and the unpopularity of its stereo system, aftermarket manufacturers will end up developing something for us, too. Perhaps just waiting for a real aftermarket solution would be ideal.

My main issue with the stereo system is the idea that newer iPhones or Android phones may not be compatible with it in the future without an update. I also hate that we cannot turn off the DSP system permanently. We have to use the diagnostic menu every time we start the car to set it to DSP Flat. Other than that, the stereo has worked pretty well for me. I'm concerned about its upgrade potential in the future and the possibility of incompatible next-gen phones.

Your English is pretty good, honestly.

I plan on replacing most of the speakers this summer. I enjoy the way it sounds with DSP Flat set in the diagnostic menu, and I feel like better speakers would be the icing on the cake. I just wish we could keep the DSP setting.

I am very interested in this... I got an 2018 EX Hatchback, thinking in the back of my mind that I may need to replace the radio, but I liked the other items that came at that trim level... Now it seems that the LX is far more adaptable to third party radios. :( My first thought was, since climate control seems to be a major hindrance, to do just this and swap out the modules, but I have no idea if it would really work or not.

Did anyone ever try this? The thread is a little old...

I guess once climate controls are handled, if this fixed it, there are still issues with the many factory/vehicle settings that are managed through the radio that a third party radio wouldn't know about... Are there workarounds for that? Is this not a problem on the LX models?

Otherwise, very happy with the car, I suppose in time these things will all get sorted... I see some of the Android Radio models claim full support for almost everything, including climate controls and integrated camera/etc, even vehicle settings, but I would be happy to put my 4200NEX from the last car into this one. :)

I have already done this and I honestly was not aware or even thinking about my controls for my vehicles system or any of the other management the stock radio handles I guess I assumed it would automatically control everything including HVAC.

I'm so mad after spending $500 on radio and install components.
if you're considering doing this because you wanted a larger screen consider this as an option,
you can Flash Factory head unit and install Google Play and services as well as Google Chrome and all the social medias... the radio does runs slow on RAM because I accomplished all this through Honda hack and actually hacking the hell out of this radio with that being said there may be a way to modify the factory radio input or output 4 video to do a type of Clone screen or mirror and then you can either hardwire to HDMI or Bluetooth to a 10 in Samsung tablet and mount the tablet like you would my $500 piece of s*** I wasted my money on that way say you wanted to play a music video you can easily make the stock run VLC with a little tweaking like I have and mirror the screen for a 10in tablet for a larger viewing pleasure.
Because well that's what I'm going to do!!!??????

if anyone is looking for a slightly new Boss BN10ACP along with the additional conversion harness a 12 volt to 6 volt reducer parking brake bypass and a factory FM antenna plug-in shoot me a DM oh yes and a double din dashboard mount.

they have tesla style screens that have everything integrated(i think)
i just wanted a simplier climate control myself. sacrificed heated seats even.
they are plug and play. i went to one that is single climate and has the readout on the unit. i can actually change the fans that are on now. i refuse to use that stupid touch screen climate control crap.
i can get pics, because im actually gonna be gettin my non oem one from storage to try something.
ill get pics of both if youd like whne i get back with em

pluug and play, except the ones with the "climate" button that pulls the screen up. the up and down arrows, and heated seats. such as the 2019 sport touring(i think she has sport touring or maybe just touring) i only found this out because i was gonna buy one before mine got here, and someone else asked about them. i suggested it. it didnt work properly for them.
none the less there is an extra plug. sorta like the headunits with physical volume knobs extra plugs.

what you show pics of, plug and play easy
