Who cares about the labels? All that really matters is how well a car fits it's intended use/audience. The Si is about being fun to drive and practical at a reasonable price... and it's likely to do that well... someday...
Ya someday being the key word. I cant help but think the Si doesn't have much to offer at this point, otherwise they would be pumping out the information on it already. The CTR got the investment dollars from Honda, the Si got the lipstick treatment ... atleast that's the message I'm seeing with all of the silence on this car.

He seems like a good writer, but he's got some weird, old chip embedded into his shoulder that he really needs to let go. :)

According to that article, Porsche 911 is not a "sports car" but Porsche Boxster is? 1953 Corvette was, but 2016 Corvette isn't? I'm sorry but that's some funny stuff. Language evolves, things that language describes evolve, and so some definitions change a bit over time, like that. So what. If someone wants to call their beloved souped-up Mustang a sports car -- why the hell not? :dunno:

(P.S. Sorry to contribute to a derail)
Merriam-Webster defines a sports car as "a low small usually 2-passenger automobile designed for quick response, easy maneuverability, and high-speed driving" With the first known use of the word dating to 1919. I read the R&T article, the author has an opinion and it's debatable. For many the term "sports car" simply equates to higher insurance premiums or any car purposely built to be faster than any other vehicle for which has the sole purpose of transporting people or things from point A to point B. Just my 2 cents.

The Si has always been fun to drive and with the new Civic platform, that snickety 6 speed, upgraded motor, upgraded suspension it could easily be the most fun (reasonably priced) Civic to date. They've done a bit more than lipstick it... hopefully they'll give it a decent feature list, I'll forgive most of Honda's sins if they give Canadians LED headlights.

I chalk the silence up to the long shadow cast by the CTR. Honda wants to take full advantage of that Halo and are willing to sacrifice Si visibility to do it... can't blame them... those that want an Si will get one despite the lack of info and their annoyance will fade after a drive or two in their new Si.

Well because a lot of people buying the Si if they could afford a Corvette or F Type Jag..Then they would..besides also the insurance...Besides, those 2 cars are not even in same category as an Si..Pppfffbbbttt..Lol
I can personally guarantee you that there is at least one person on this board who could afford a Corvette or an F-Type who is planning on buying either an Si sedan or a GTI.

I wasn't talking about what people on this board can or can't afford. Besides, that's not really my business. Anyway peeps blow smoke out their arse anyhow..Many people can't really afford those cars.. So get real:p

Snickety, marketiting. I mean seriously, every auto reviewer raved about how great the Miata's gearbox and handling is. Toggle switch that and handle like on-rail this. I've driven a miata and sorry its gearbox is nowhere as good as the Cayman's and its handling doesn't really standout against my Prelude. Given, I haven't driven an SI, but from just doing static rows in a few auto shows, I'm not impressed. If Honda drop in the 2.0T, then I'd buy the SI with 90% probability. But with the 1.5T, I'm cross shopping with the 2018 WRX and the 2018 GTI if they drop in the new LCD instrumentation cluster. I know the GTI's gearbox will be better than the SIs and probably not much different between the SI and the WRX.

You may get your LED lights up north, but for US, it's almost guaranteed it'll be halogen. But at least, we can swap in LEDs after purchase with more money.

I'll address this in the hopes we can put this behind us (not directed at you specifically).

I'm not going to brag on what cars I can or cannot afford. But I can tell you when it comes to the daily grind, the Si offers 90% of the fun of most cars that cost twice as much. And a cost of ownership @ a fraction of the price.

I'm not going to raise a stink when my kids eat in the back seat. Or get exceptionally worried parking in downtown. Or hire an armed guard to watch my Honda 24/7. This is a car I can rack thousands and thousands of worry-free miles without beating an eyelash.

I can tell you that anyone else considering this car who can afford more, is thinking the exact same thing.

I'm not bragging which car is what. I'm just sick of the way marketing talk about Honda manuals that made it sound like it is THE transmission that end all transmissions.

I don't see how you can make that statement when there're cars like the WRX and the Focus ST? I'll leave the GTI out of it because although I think it's much more fun than the SI, but people kept saying it's not reliable, yadi yada, but I do know people who had good experiences with them. What can the SI offer over and on top of what a WRX offers? Yeah Honda had its days in the 80s and 90s.

@bikejog,

Because simply Civics and Hondas in general are extremely reliable. I mean some have been documented to go a million miles and still going strong let alone 500,000 miles without any major problems. That can't be said with BMW's and many other popular brand names and significantly cheaper to boot. On top of that you get a sporty car that zips around and their manual transmissions is considered one of the best in terms of the amount of beatings it can take and still offer buttery smooth shifts.

For many car enthusiasts, a sporty vehicle that is affordable, comfortable, a manual transmission, with low maintenance is a absolutely must have to them. Not to mention all the amenities it might come with such as led lights, push button start, possibly sunroof and navigation? It's an investment that is worth it and depreciation stays relatively reasonable.

I won't get back into the specifics. All I can say is go look at my profile, read some of my post history, and review some of the data that I've shared.

The only thing I'll add is that I've driven nearly every USDM Sport Sedan/Hatch under 50K except the Focus RS.

Time for us to move on...

These are rather absurd statements to make when you haven't driven the NEW Si.

Having owned a 9th and 10th gen Civic, there is simply no comparison between the two. I expect the Si will seriously outclass the previous versions in the same way.
