We'll see how it goes, but I don't think it's valid to look at last year's model and compare to this year's for curb weight. The design is completely different. The best frame of reference is this year's hatchback models.

If the CTR curb weight is truly 3000+ lbs I will be in shock. Where does 200+ lbs gain from the base model come from? Honda isn't dumb, it's not like they are putting rocks in the panels.

One thing I realized from all this discussion -- the LX is actually a compelling product. It's available right now, price is almost half the eventual CTR price. $16,000 buys a lot of mods... you could even buy an old ITR AND a new LX for the price of a new CTR.

I think we should all take a step back from trying to guess the weight xD unless someone has the exact specs haha.

If the car is at 3000 pounds, 300 horsepower should be plenty. I think Honda will be making a HUGE mistake if this falls out of the 5 second range in 0-60.

Call me classic BMW driver. With a wing that big you gonna get challenged all day long on the free-way. My car has no torque down low, which is bad for light to light, but on the freeway. HP FTW. Can't justified 35k+ new car still losing to some Twin-Turbo G35 ....
watch this car make 400+ on just a tune
It's true that you're gonna have people trying to roll on you on the highway! I had that a lot in my 95 turbo Civic. It kinda stopped when I got the 09Si in 2009. It's coming back a little now, but the people picking on me are in S3's and M2/4's. The CTR will hang/beat them in a highway roll.
Comparing a brand new Type R to a Twin Turbo G35 is a bit unfair. Closest thing I can find (I guess?) is a new Q50 for $33k. Add in about 10k for turbos, plumbing, tuning, and yes you've got a powerful car that needs 100hp more than the TypeR because of the extra 1000lbs.
By the same logic, it should be hard to justify a $35k new car losing to a used 8th gen Turbo Si...we all know they can make 400-500hp on E85 and all stock internals with high reliability...

No they don't... They put the car on a scale and weight it. FK2 = Curb weight 1382 kg (3047 lbs). Honda stated it was "Type R has an aluminum hood, contributing to a 16 kg (35 lb) reduction in body weight versus the previous Type R"

3047 - 35 pounds = 3012 lbs

I don't trust them comparing it to the current hatchback weight. I trust that they know the curb of the old Type R since it's the same motor, suspension, transmission, etc.

Remove those worthless 20" rims and a battery that was designed for the REAL type R in europe that has the engine stop/go setup... You will be sub 3000 easily.
Gosh I hope we don't get the same battery!!!

Will test driving one of these even be an option? I think it would be a waste of the dealer's time. If someone won't buy without a test drive, there's 100 waiting that will. I sure wouldn't want to add miles as a dealer. Even or especially with employees.
I wouldn't buy one that had been test driven OR transferred from another lot. I doubt they'll let people drive them if they have less than 5 miles on them. Maybe there will be designated cars that can be driven? Dealer Demos at maybe 20 dealers in the states? No idea.
In 2000/2001, I rolled on to the Acura lot in my 99Civic Si in EBP and inquired about trading for an ITR. They would open the doors but not give me the key. The shift knob had been removed to prevent theft. Nobody was going to drive the car except the buyer. Now, I was 20 years old, but I knew the guy- he'd flip me the keys to his S2000 - but I still couldn't drive the ITR.
I did finally find one, used, modified, at a BMW dealer near Willow Grove. Drove it. It was awesome even though it had aftermarket wheels.

Dude is FWD 0-60 won't be stellar specially with street tires.
Where this car really shines is in rollout races, has enough power to walk out the competition easily.

My current car does high 4s 0-60 it will destroy a Type R from a dig. Pretty sure will do better on the quarter mile too but I'm aware that after 1/4 mile mark it will pass me so fast that my car will look like it has engine problems.

While everyone bitched at me cuz I wanted safety features yet no one bitches at everyone who wants this car to be a straight line vehicle.. *sigh*

It's a Type R. It's not meant for 0-60 or 1/4... It's designed as a streetable road course vehicle. If you want to feel the Type R in the environment it has been designed for make sure you enjoy track days or live by some awesome twisty roads! Especially twisty roads with elevation change :)

This is true. That, and a car like this is more about the handling. I'm curious to see how the manage with it being a FWD. That being said, Ford did a great job with the Fiesta ST. So many reviewers, and myself included felt like it drove similar to a RWD car. That's the only car I'd probably own over the Mustang (that I currently own). My fiancée had a Focus and it was the biggest piece of garbage on the planet (exaggeration for the win).

wow. people whining about the specs. and the straight line. it's a damn fwd car. i'm not concerned about the hp as much as the tq. i'm surprised we got this much tq. this car will beat many a car on the track with great tires as the only upgrade. looks like a blast to drive, handles superb, reliable, might appreciate in value (well not go up but i bet it'll still hold quite a bit of value with 50k miles that hasn't been wrecked at all). i'd be more concerned with how honda is going to price it. i am more disappointed in the si specs. was really hoping for a SI with at least 200tq from the factory. honda engines can make hp all day long but i want some torque damn it!!! i still don't know if i will get one. no sunroof (that's just me, i know what this car is), honda might price it out my comfortable territory (more worried about insurance), the theft possibilities. i live on the side of town where my car would be more likely to get broke into than stolen though. i am probably going to get an SI and hondata. i never got a hondata and vittune as i didn't plan on keeping the last 2 cars i owned more than 3 years or so. i may just sit back and sit on my '14 and get one anyways. i don't like the center console and love the little second windows on driver and passenger side. excellent visibilty.

and geez. it's coming with 20" rims? tires are going to be expensive especially if you want top shelf tires. and all the people coming out of the woodwork that will want to drive your car? HELL NO! you can't even drive an automatic.

I agree with most of the stuff you said above.

However I disagree on the tire aspect. If you look up the stock tire size they are almost the same price or cheaper than some of its competitors 18" and 19" inch tire offerings.

Also if people are worrying about tire prices this car might be out of your price range, due to the camber and aggressiveness of the entire vehicle package combined with my driving style I will be lucky to see 10k out of the stockers...

aren't the stock tires rater for 5k miles? are they sticking with continental slicks or something more consumer oriented? if i was only going to get 5k out of a tire i'd probably beat it to crap anyways. i've been getting close to rated mileage out of the tires i've bought lately with my speed demon driving. 20 years ago i used to drive like a bat out of hell and get 20k driving tires till there was no tread whatsoever.
