So I am considering getting the Flashpro for my '16 EX-T Sedan (CVT). The power gains and better response has me interested, but $700 is a lot of money for me right now. My car is a lease, so when the lease is up I would have to sell the Flashpro. My question is, is there any reason I would have trouble selling it (in approximately 2.5 years) for let's say $600? From what I understand, the tune can be unlocked and applied to another car, and there isn't really any wear-and-tear on this item, so it will essentially still be as good as new. If I'm guaranteed to make most of the money back, I will go ahead and get this tune. But if it's likely that I will be unable to get rid of it for some reason, I don't feel like spending $700 that I won't get back. Anyone know how the used market is for these tuners? Is there any reason people stay away from used tuners, will updated versions make this one obsolete? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

TL;DR: Can I realistically expect to be able to easily sell a used Flashpro in a couple years for close to the current retail price?

No. Realistically, anything purchased at retail and then used can never be sold for retail especially a couple years later. Expect to sell at 50-70% of what you paid for it later on down the road. If you don't feel like spending the money you won't get back, it's best to not get the Flashpro to begin with. I tend to leave my lease cars stock since I'll be trading it out and the end of the lease anyways.

Honestly I'd be happy to get even $500 for it. And I understand if it's an installed part that takes abuse from driving or the environment, but this is really just software. The programmer itself will only be used a handful of times to install/uninstall the tune. So there is no effective degradation of quality, it should pretty much always work as good as new.

Not debating that point at all, but, if I can buy one brand spanking new for 650$, I really have no incentive to buy your two year old used unit for even 500$. If I'm being 100% realistic I'd put mine up for 350$ when I'm done with it and hope for the best.

I sold my FlashPro for my 8th Gen Si for $550 shipped last year, and FlashPros for 8th gens have been out for years. Its really only worth what someone else will pay. But with a FP with Bluetooth, like all the new ones have, people will pay that bc its still cheaper than $700 and there is literally zero degradation in the product. It doesnt wear out, it doesn't have an end to its useful lifespan. If you want to let yours go for $350 down the road, let me know and ill be glad to scoop it up. Of course, if Hondata doesnt open up all the tables to tuners like Ktuner is now for Vit, then FP may not have any resale value down the road. Hoping, like Vit has said, that as the platform develops, Hondata comes around and opens it up more.

Used Hondata products always hold they're value well. Trust me. I've seen them sell for almost what they go for new. Legit.

Honestly I'd sell it anywhere between $50-100 dollars less than what it is retailing for now. Especially if the unit hasn't changed in years. Its also not like an exhaust or filter that exhibit wear and tear which decrease in value.

Because I want to enhance the driving experience of the car I'll be driving for the next 2+ years? Why else lol

It's not like I'm doing any permanent irreversible modifications

All I was implying is that it's not ideal to modify a car that you are leasing. That's like saying there's no human error when installing these parts or tuning the vehicle. The risk is slim to none of you are using a good tuner but fair warning to others. More money will be coming out of that wallet. And it's just common sense that if you are modifying the car, that it would be financed or paid in full. Also I never said anything about keeping the car forever? And by all means do as you please. I'm not telling anyone they can't lmao.

Sounds more like personal opinion than common sense, considering it makes absolutely no difference whether the car is leased or not when talking about flashing an easily reversible base map from a reputable company.

It does make a difference because if something breaks you are gonna be held responsible. If you own the car yeah you are still responsible but at least it's your car. No dealer will be hanging over your neck. And if it's leased you don't have an option if something does brake or malfunction. I don't think you get the point I'm trying to lay out. And yes you could say this is opinion based but it's also common sense. Take with a grain of salt and don't get the panties twisted up.

If something breaks, i fix it, whether I lease it or have a loan for it, or own it outright. It doesnt matter what you do with it during your lease term, its what shape is the car in when you turn it in. If you blow the transmission and fix it, and the car runs perfect when you turn it in, did it matter you modded it?

If you got rear ended, would you turn it in like that, or take it to a body shop and get it fixed.
