So, originally my Civic 2016 EX-T would emit fast beeps when I got out of the car without taking my FOB with me. It would also often emit this noise even if I had taken my keys out, but got out too fast or was too close to the car or whatever... I've seen other threads here referring to this issue. So I assumed I was in the same boat.

Recently I noticed it doesn't emit the fast beep under any circumstance except when I leave the FOB in the trunk or I close the door with FOB far away. In both cases I understand it's warning me that the doors are not locked.

What's weird is that it won't give me that fast beep reminder when I leave the keys in the cabin anymore. The only thing I can think of is that this was a software update that occurred the when I brought my car in for the parking brake recall. I like that it's not annoying me half the time for no reason, but I kinda miss the appropriate alert that my I left my keys in the car and it's not locked.

Does anybody know if the auto lock operation stop beeper sounds have been modified by Honda? Or was mine originally just acting in aberrant way?

Thanks.

It's not supposed to beep at you when the fob is still in the car.

The car has no way of differentiating between the fob and the driver, so if the fob is in the car, it'll assume the driver is in the car. Even if the doors opened and closed, if the fob is in the car, the car thinks the driver is in the car, and won't beep.

To answer your questions, it sounds like it wasn't working properly before, but now it is.

If you don't pet the car in park and put the parking brake on before you turn off the car it will beep when you get out.

it was never supposed to beep when you leave the keys in the cabin, it just won't lock. The only times it should beep is:

1. When you get out with the key fob and walk away too fast.
2. When you leave your fob in the trunk, it will beep and open the trunk.
3. If you get out of your car and your keys are pretty far.

Mine beeps all the time (I don't recall it doing so much in the past). Could it be the parking brake as mentioned above. I'll need to check.

You don't need to put on the parking brake, but of course it needs to be in park.

Hmmm...I'm not sure the parking brake is part of the equation. I never use the parking brake, and auto-lock works without beeping...almost every time.

Glad you posted this, I was going to ask about a beeping issue too. Although, I agree with the other posts, you car should not beep when you walk away with the fob in the car- the car would think you're in it. My issue though is that I can hear beeping from my trunk when I get in the car but the key fob is in the car, not in the trunk. It's crazy to hear it....it's the alarming "keys in the trunk" beep but they aren't in the trunk. Thoughts?

When I start the car and get out to scrape the windshield, it beeps rapidly when I close the door. I have to leave it ajar.

I have yet to determine why the volume fluctuates. In daytime it's low, at 3am it's piercing.

My problem (Jan 16 EX-T) is that about 20% of the time it gives me the fast beep and I need to open and close one of the front doors. Not sure if its the speed in which I get out or maybe my keys are close enough to the door that its not sure, but its somewhat annoying.

Yeah it's tricky sometimes. It sometimes works sometimes not depending on what you have enabled. Such as the 'walk away' feature which your familiar with. There are threads in here already with the issue. I do know that a lot of owners have faulty systems in the 2017 model year. Apparently they changed the module to a different part #. But it will beep if you walk away from the car while it is idling if your key is in your pocket, key fob in trunk, spare key in cabin as well as key that was used. And if you walk away too fast after closing the door with key in fob in pocket and also poor signal such as if you had a purse with your fob in there with a bunch of other keys and next to a cellphone. You stated it doesn't beep anymore when 'keys' are left in car. Did you state that correctly? Because I do believe it should if you have both sets of keys in cabin and you try to 'walk away' with the one set. But if you meant only one set it should not have been beeping at all in the first place. So as another stated it seems to be fixed now. But if you had both sets in there and left the spare key it should sound the beeps. Hope that all made sense. Lol. Also as another stated. If you pulled the parking brake and left it in drive and open drivers door it will sound those beeps. And also if you left the ignition on or accessory mode it will sound those beeps even if you try to lock it with the fob. It will not let you lock the car. It will sound the beeps.

You don't need to open the door again, just hit the Lock button on the FOB and continue walking away. It thinks the FOB is no where to be found - hitting the Lock button lets it know "I'm here", as well as securing your car.

Thanks, good thought, I'll have to try it. Of course, one thing nice about the walk-away feature is that my keys remain buried in my pocket so I don't know if its easier to open/close or drag them out :)

Well then why not just hit the button on either the driver door or passenger door. This way it is still keyless. No need to pull out your keys.

Right. My favorite thing about the feature comes to bear when I get out of our other car (that doesn't auto-lock) with my hands full, and to lock it, I have to put stuff down...typically on the car itself. When it's the Civic, just just keep happily walkin'.
